Can you believe it’s June already? Six months into the year!? It seems like we just finished cleaning up the confetti and washing the champagne glasses from celebrating the new year!
One of the things I have been dong for the past few years in lieu of making a New Years Resolution is selecting a word of the year. For me, picking a word of the year is an easy way to set a general intention for what I want to achieve or see in my life for the year. Selecting one word is simple. It makes remembering and focusing on my intention a breeze. Check out this post from one of my favorite blogs to read more about how to pick a word of the year and why you want to do so. Hint - even though we are at the halfway mark of 2019, it’s NEVER too late.
So, In 2017, my word was PASSION. I selected that word because I was tired of feeling like I was just going through the motions when I came to my daily life and I wanted to add a little umph to things. It was my first time doing word of the year instead of a resolution. While I started out being excited about it, I lost my focus and passion didn’t really show up in my life the way I expected.
In 2018, I chose the word ELEVATE. Since I was doing pretty well and feeling alright in 2018,I wanted to take it up a notch in 2018. Besides just picking a word, I did some other things to make sure I was reminded of my intention to elevate regularly. I made a graphic with a beautiful image and the word ELEVATE for the lock screen on my phone. That was one way I knew I could keep the word and plan for the year in my face. I also put some action behind my word by ramping up my weight loss/healthy lifestyle journey in January. That got things off to a great start and I was able to see various iterations of the word ELEVATE show up in my life.
Since I was on a roll and feeling great with the word ELEVATE, I decided to keep it going - bigger and better. I settled on EXPAND for 2019. The idea I had was to capitalize on the positive flow of 2018 and see it blossom in to even more wonderfulness.
At this halfway mark in the year, it’s a great time to check in and see how things are going so far. As for me, I’m thrilled about my choice for my word of the year this yer and the way it has made it’s home in my life. I’ve already had some stellar experiences this year - including my bucket list trip to California and showing myself more and more love (which includes being more diligent on my health journey). The best part is that I have six more months to continue my EXPANSION. With another bucket list trip on the horizon (a little more than 2 weeks before I head to Greece!) and a few new influencer opportunities coming my way, it looks like I couldn’t have selected a better word to guide my steps this year.
